Journey Outline

The Path

The journey opens on the Portuguese Atlantic coast, walks north through Viana do Castelo, Âncora, and Caminha, then turns inland through the Minho valley toward the Spanish border. From Valença the path crosses into Galicia — through Tui, Pontevedra, and quiet countryside — all the way into Santiago de Compostela.

Day 1 — Arrival in Porto

Arrive in Porto and settle into the hotel. A gentle beginning — time to gather, land, and prepare for the journey ahead. Meet Loretta and your fellow pilgrims for a welcome circle in the evening.
Day 2 — Matosinhos to Vila do Conde · 20 km

Coastal
Begin along the Atlantic with ocean views and boardwalk paths. The Camino opens beside the sea — a wide, breathing start to the journey.
Day 3 — Vila do Conde to Esposende · 25 km
October 3
Coastal
Continue along beaches and coastal paths through quiet seaside communities. The sea remains a steady companion, the rhythm of walking deepens.
Day 4 — Esposende to Viana do Castelo · 23.5 km

Coastal
Walk into one of the most beautiful towns on the Portuguese coast — rich in architecture, culture, and atmosphere. An evening to explore and rest.
Day 5 — Viana do Castelo to Âncora · 19 km

A quieter coastal day through small seaside villages and natural estuaries. Space to settle more deeply into the experience before the landscape begins to shift.
Day 6 — Âncora to Caminha · 9.5 km

A shorter walk to charming Caminha — a riverside border town near the mouth of the Minho. The last coastal stage. Space to pause and absorb before the landscape changes.
Day 7 — Caminha to Vila Nova de Cerveira · 15 km

Inland Begins
The journey turns here. Leave the coast and follow the Minho River inland through forested hills and green valleys. The character of the Camino transforms — quieter, deeper, more intimate.
Day 8 — Vila Nova de Cerveira to Valença · 15 km

Shorter Journey Joins
Walk to Valença — a magnificent fortified town overlooking the Minho and the border into Spain. Shorter journey walkers arrive here today and join the group for a shared evening before the crossing.
Day 9 — Valença · Tui · Porriño · 20 km

Central · Spain
Cross the bridge on foot into Spain and enter Tui — a beautiful medieval city and one of the Camino’s most celebrated border moments. Continue through eucalyptus forest paths to Porriño.
Day 10 — Porriño to Arcade · 22 km

Central · Galicia
A rich walking day through villages and forest — Galician stone farmhouses, ancient waymarkers, and the deepening quiet of the interior path.
Day 11 — Arcade to Pontevedra · 13 km

Central · Galicia
Arrive in Pontevedra — one of the most beautiful and lively towns on the entire Camino. Magnificent squares, a vibrant old city, and deep Camino spirit. An evening to truly arrive.
Day 12 — Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis · 22 km

Continue through forest and open Galician countryside to a historic thermal town — a place of warmth, renewal, and simple beauty.
Day 13 — Caldas de Reis to Padrón · 19 km

Central · Galicia
Walk through the green Galician countryside to Padrón — a town steeped in Camino legend. The Cathedral is close now. Something shifts in the air.
Day 14 — Padrón to Santiago · 25 km
October 14
Arrival · Santiago
The final walk. Every step is felt. Arrive in Santiago de Compostela and stand before the Cathedral — the end of the path and the beginning of something new. Evening celebration with the group.
Day 15 — Santiago · Closing & Departure
October 15
End of Services
Receive your Compostela certificate. Closing circle with Loretta. Time to sit with the Cathedral, to wander, to let it all settle. Departures from Santiago today. Services conclude this morning.

The Journey on a Map

The route combines two paths: the blue Portuguese Coastal Way from Porto to Caminha, then the purple coastal spur and red Portuguese Way inland through Valença, Tui, Pontevedra, and on to Santiago.

Getting There

Arrival Information

Full Journey walkers fly into Porto (OPO) and meet the group for Day 1 in the city centre on October 1. The walk begins the following morning from Matosinhos.

Shorter Journey walkers also fly into Porto (OPO), then travel to Valença by train (approximately 2 hours) or by taxi or private transfer. Valença is situated directly on the Spanish border, just across the Minho River from Tui. Join the group on Day 8 (October 8) in time to settle in before the crossing into Spain the following morning.
