SomaFIT Methodology
How It Actually Works
The assessments are not separate from the work.
They become visible at the edge.
Before
The assessments reveal
What the system carries before the work begins
- How the system organizes
- How the person protects
- How they leave themselves
- What happens under stress
During
The live session reveals
The assessment made visible in real time
- Body sensation activates
- Protection pattern activates
- Safety role activates relationally
- The loop becomes visible
- The edge appears
Return
The person reconnects
The moment something different becomes possible
- To sensation
- To the body
- To the unfinished part
- To the present moment
- To themselves
Reorganization
The system learns
What becomes possible when the part is finally met
- It can stay
- The part is no longer alone
- Protection does not need to fully take over
- Capacity expands
- The spiral goes deeper
The return is not singular. The system reorganizes through repeated returns to sensation —
not just once at the end, but again and again throughout the work.

The defining bridge
“The edge is where the assessment comes alive.”
The assessments predict how the person leaves, how protection appears, and how the body organizes under stress. The live session makes it visible in real time. Before the edge, you have a map. At the edge, you have the territory.
At the edge
Three things activate simultaneously
These are not the same thing. The practitioner learns to see all three.
Body sensation activates
The body responds to rising activation with physical sensation — the direct entry point into lived experience.
Tightness, pressure, collapse, heat, urgency, constriction, a dropping away
Protection pattern activates
The system’s learned automatic response runs — moving the person away from sensation and into protection.
Fixing, overthinking, withdrawing, pleasing, collapsing, disappearing, numbing
Safety role activates relationally
The relational strategy the person developed to stay safe with others activates in the room — with the facilitator, with the group.
Performing okayness, checking if they’re doing it right, becoming useful, staying invisible, managing the facilitator
The practitioner skill
“Naming it creates safety without the role.”
When you see the safety role activating and name it without judgment — “I notice you checking if you’re doing this right” — the person no longer has to perform the role unconsciously. The role has been seen. That seeing is the safety. You are not analyzing, confronting, or interpreting. You are helping the person recognize the live moment the system leaves itself relationally. That is SomaFIT.
The core orientation
What SomaFIT Is Really Teaching
Reaction
Recognition before reaction
Leaving
Staying instead of leaving
Protection
Relationship instead of protection
Abandoning
Returning instead of abandoning
Intellectual analysis
Embodied awareness instead of intellectual analysis
“The system reorganizes through staying inside lived experience.”
